HEP Emergency Shelter Resident
HEP’s emergency housing program provides immediate shelter, safety, and support for individuals, families, and Veterans experiencing homelessness. Residents receive nutritious meals, individualized case management, and access to essential services designed to stabilize their situation and help them take the first steps toward permanent housing.
HEP’s permanent supportive housing program combines affordable long-term housing with ongoing supportive services for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness or living with disabling conditions. Through housing stability, individualized case management, and access to healthcare and wellness services, residents are empowered to improve their quality of life, maintain housing, and achieve greater independence.
The HEP Veterans Community offers more than housing – it provides a supportive environment where Veterans can rebuild stability while rediscovering connection and purpose. Veteran-specific housing and a dedicated Veterans Clubhouse create opportunities for fellowship, peer support, and community engagement. HEP Activity Coordinators organize a variety of therapeutic and recreational experiences, including sporting events, museum visits, equine therapy, and other community outings that reduce isolation, improve well-being, and help Veterans successfully reintegrate into civilian life.
At HEP, wellness is about more than treating illness: it is about helping people heal, thrive, and reclaim their lives. Our award-winning wellness model recognizes that lasting housing stability depends on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Residents have convenient access to comprehensive on-site medical, dental, vision, and behavioral healthcare services, eliminating many of the barriers that prevent vulnerable individuals from receiving consistent care. Complemented by nutritional counseling and two thriving HEP gardens, these services support healthier lifestyles while empowering residents to take an active role in their own wellness. The impact extends beyond individual outcomes – by reducing avoidable emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and other costly interventions, HEP’s holistic approach generates more than $4 million in annual savings for the local community.
The North Greenwood Adult Education and Workforce Development Center serves as a vital resource for HEP residents and community members seeking to improve their economic stability through education and employment. The center offers comprehensive workforce development services, including career counseling, resume writing, interview preparation, job readiness training, and financial literacy education. By helping participants develop marketable skills and connect with employment opportunities, the center supports long-term self-sufficiency and strengthens the local workforce.
HEP’s bistro-style Dining Hall and commercial-grade Kitchen serve as a hub of nourishment, connection, and community. Staff and volunteers prepare and serve three nutritious meals daily, ensuring residents have reliable access to healthy food while reducing one of the most significant barriers faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. By providing a welcoming space where residents can gather, share meals, and connect with others, HEP helps foster the sense of dignity, stability, and belonging that supports successful outcomes.
At HEP, supporting families means caring for more than their housing needs. In addition to year-round case management and support services, families receive extra assistance during back-to-school and holiday seasons to help ensure every child feels prepared, included, and celebrated. From providing school supplies, uniforms, and haircuts before the first day of school to delivering gifts and household essentials during the holidays, HEP helps ease financial burdens while creating meaningful moments that allow families to focus on building a brighter future together.

The HEP Empowerment Garden promotes food security, nutrition, and community sustainability through innovative, in-ground and vertical growing systems. Fresh organic produce harvested from the garden is incorporated into meals served in HEP’s Kitchen and Dining Hall, improving access to healthy food for residents. Surplus produce is distributed through HEP’s SNAP-certified Mobile Market, which operates twice weekly and provides affordable, locally grown fruits and vegetables to community members, expanding access to nutritious food in underserved neighborhoods.
